“We found that [those exposed to Non-invasive Gamma ENtrainment Using Sensory stimulation (GENUS) at 40Hz] over 3 months had less brain atrophy and reduced loss of functional connectivity, improved markers of sleep, and improved performance on an associative memory task. “
Gamma Frequency Sensory Stimulation In Mild Probable Alzheimer’s Dementia Patients: Results of feasibility and pilot studies. PLOS ONE. Li-Huei Tsai, et al. Published: December 1, 2022

The study above was published December 1, 2022. There is tremendous excitement about this research and it’s implications.
Being able to treat dementia, including Alzheimer’s Disease with a simple non-invasive light/sound frequency emitting device (as was used in this experiment) could help so many people. Alzheimer’s disease is the third leading cause of death in those over the age of 65 today.
A number of companies are scrambling to produce devices that can be used as 40 Hz light/sound stimulators. Given the simplicity of the products (a 40 Hz flickering light synchronized with a 40 Hz sound), some of the products seem overpriced. The system below from Gamma Light is the one that I use and which is reasonably priced.
40 Hz Gamma Light & Sound Entrainment System For Home Use
Gamma Light Therapy let’s you treat yourself at home with 40 Hz light and sound therapy.
The light therapy is available through a stand alone Clarity 40 Hz Lamp. Or alternately, you can purchase their Clarity 40 Hz Light Bulb which will turn any household lamp into a 40 Hz therapy light.
The sound therapy is provided by the Clarity 40 Hz Sound Player.
Here are the costs of each of the above:
- Clarity 40 Hz Lamp $169.99
- Clarity 40 Hz Light Bulb $59.99
- Clarity 40 Hz Sound Player $49.99
The Gamma Light Therapy site also features two other light therapy devices for home use. These are the 670 nm red light (670nm red light has been shown to improve vision and help prevent retinopathy) and the 520 nm green light (green light and green environments, such as forests, have been shown to reduce stress and improve mood).
Dr. Misha Kogan, MD has done us all a favor by researching what is available in terms of cost effective 40 Hz sound / light emitters. Here is the video he recently released on Youtube wherein he details his findings.
A quick summary of what he reports in his video:
You can create your own DIY treatment system using any one of the devices below and a free app called ALzLive that is available on the Apple App Store or on Google Play.
Your device needs to be one of the following:
- iPad Pro (2017 or later)
- iPhone13 Pro or later
- Android phones: Pixel 6, Samsung Galaxy S20, S21, Samsung Galaxy Note 20, Asus ROG Phone 2, OnePlus 7T Pro, OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus 7T, Realme X2 Pro, Poco X2, Realme 6 Pro and Realme 6, Nubia Red Magic 3S, Xiaomi Mi 10 / 10 Pro 5G, Realme X50 Pro 5G, Razer Phone 2, Google Pixel 4, Sharp Aquos Zero2
Once you are set up with one of the devices above and the ALzLive app, you’ll want to expose yourself to the syncrhonized 40 Hz light and sound for one hour per day. You do not need to stare into the pulsing light directly. Just have it in your field of vision, off to the side. It still registers and has it’s beneficial effect.
